"People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it" - Simon Sinek
I say this all the time to myself and to clients, yet I haven't really been clear on what my "why" is for a few months. I have been feeling a little uninspired lately about my business. It's a bummer to admit, and a little embarrassing, as someone who's doing something they harp on loving SO much. But it happens to the best of us, right? ;) It's a journey.
Luckily, I had a Q+A Call for my Sisterhood Mastermind program yesterday with the lovely Sara Davidson, who is even more brilliant than I had imagined before. For those of you who don't know Sara yet, you'll want to check her out! She's the founder of Hello Fearless and a new program called Boss School.
If YOU'VE been feeling uninspired, join me this Thursday evening, May 21st at 8 PM EST for a Live Google Hangout where we'll do a desire deep-dive into what you REALLY crave in your life (and business, if you have one), and get you back on track to living your most free & fulfilled life possible. Be sure to register for call details below.
On our mastermind call, I had asked Sara how she likes to get connected with her "why" -- both for her business and for her life, to stoke the proverbial flames of passion. Here's what she offered:
Write a stream of consciousness flow of "I believe..." statements.
So, after our call ended, I poured myself a nice wine glass full of kombucha, sat down with my journal and a nice pen, and got to writing. 5 pages later, I had to stop myself, but I could've kept going! That felt FREAKING AMAZING.
When we feel disconnected from the "why" behind what we're doing, it's almost impossible to stay inspired, creative, productive, focused, ... basically everything you'd want to be feeling to feel awesome about what you've done with your day.
So, here's what I want to invite you to do, so you can re-ignite your passion and get connected with why you're doing what you're doing in the world!
1. Set the scene for yourself to feel really comfortable, relaxed, and tuned in. Create some ambiance - light some candles, play some music, have a glass of wine, put on your favorite outfit, put some fresh flowers near you, eliminate distractions.... you know the drill.
2. Then, start writing your "why" for whichever category comes most naturally: your life or your business. Write it in the form of a stream of consciousness flow, in "I believe..." statements. These will help you ultimately create a bigger vision for what your ideal is, and how it will feel.
3. If you get stuck, break your statements up into categories. One by one, think about what you believe about the following areas: career, finances, relationships, love + romance, living environment, health + wellness, personal growth, & spirituality.
4. COMMENT on this post and share with me one, or a few, of the beliefs that sticks out to you the most, or that you feel really summarizes your "why" in the world -- why you do what you do.
I can't wait to hear from you in the comments below! :)
